Pickr

 macOS menu bar app

# Your audio rig,
one *click* away.

Every microphone and speaker on your Mac, in the menu bar, **named the way you think about them**. Switch devices, watch your level, and mute system-wide without leaving whatever you're doing.
[Download on the Mac App Store](https://apps.apple.com/app/id6761876281)**US$2.99 once.** Lifetime license, no subscription.

01 — Switching

## Every device, one click away.

Pickr lists what your Mac already knows about, named your way. Changing microphones mid-call takes a click instead of a detour through System Settings.

02 — Level

## You can see that you're live.

A real-time meter sits beside the active microphone, so you know your level before you speak rather than after. It runs only while the panel is open, which is why the app costs nothing in the background.

03 — Mute

## One shortcut, from anywhere.

Set a global shortcut and mute the active microphone from any application, without first finding the right window. It is the fastest way to kill a hot mic.

04 — Naming

## Your names for your gear.

"Logitech USB Headset H340" becomes "Office mic". Nicknames apply in the panel and in the menu bar, so the thing you reach for is the thing you recognise.

From the App Store listing

Built for the people who change devices all day — **remote workers** moving between calls, **podcasters** juggling a microphone and an interface, **musicians** who need the routing to disappear.

## What changed in 1.1

- Voice**Siri and Shortcuts.** Switch your input or output, or toggle mute, by voice or from an automation — try "Switch input to Desk Mic in Pickr".

- Keys**Cycle with a keypress.** Two new global shortcuts move you through your input and output devices without opening the menu.

- Label**Choose what the menu bar shows.** The icon alone, or the icon with your input or output device name beside it.

- Fixes**Rough edges gone.** Device names wrap properly in the panel, the Settings window comes to the front when you open it, and the pane scrolls.

Questions

**How much does Pickr cost?**

US$2.99 once. That is the whole business model — no subscription, no upgrade fee, and no account to create. It is S$3.98 in Singapore; the App Store shows the price in your local currency.

**Which version of macOS does Pickr need?**

macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, on Apple silicon or Intel. It is a universal build and a 1.4MB download.

**Does my audio leave my Mac?**

No. Pickr reads your audio devices and levels on your Mac and nothing is uploaded — no accounts, no cloud, no telemetry.

**Can I switch devices without opening the menu bar?**

Yes. Pickr supports Siri and the Shortcuts app, so you can say "Switch input to Desk Mic in Pickr" or build the same thing as a shortcut. You can also set global keyboard shortcuts to cycle through your input and output devices.

**Does it work with AirPods and Bluetooth headsets?**

Yes. Anything macOS lists as an input or output appears in Pickr, including AirPods, USB interfaces, and aggregate devices.

**How is this faster than System Settings?**

System Settings means leaving your work every time you want to change a device. Pickr lives in the menu bar with your devices named the way you think about them, and its global mute works from any application.

**Can I rename my audio devices?**

Yes. Nicknames live in Pickr, so a device called "Logitech USB Headset H340" can read as "Office mic" in both the panel and the menu bar.

**Does Pickr change my system audio settings, or route audio between apps?**

Pickr sets your default input and output, which is what macOS itself does when you pick a device. It does not install a driver and it does not route audio between applications — a sandboxed Mac App Store app cannot do that.

US$2.99 once

If you change audio devices more than once a day, it pays for itself in an afternoon. It is a small tool that does one job properly, and it will keep doing it.
